Coach Page

The competitive coaching team at Sevenoaks Swimming Club is led by two 'Level 3' qualified coaches, Jo King (Gold Squad) and Julian Metcalf (Top Squad).

Other squad coaches are Ann Walkley (Bronze) Vince Norris (Silver),  Mandy Turner, Gail Leathers and Alison Hook (Entry Level) as well as land training specialists, Jeremy Whiting and Louis Ventin.

The focus with junior swimmers in the early squads is on improving technique and introducing swimmers to the skills of competitive swimming.

Our swimmers are individuals with differing needs, abilities and ambitions, and we seek to cater for these as appropriate within the broader framework of the LTAD.

As swimmers progress through the squads, they are able to increase the hours that they train during additional sessions, and are invited to compete in the Club’s wide range of galas, open meets and competitions. In addition, we hope our members of all ages – the youngest through to Masters – will enjoy our own Club Championships held in November and December each year.

Land training sessions are also available to swimmers in Bronze Squad and above, as well as an half term swim camps. An annual overseas training camp is offered to secondary schoold age swimmers every October half term.

The Club supports swimmers at all levels of competition and in addition to our regular programme of galas, this season we have two teams competing in the Kent Junior League and the National Speedo League; in both competitions a team is competing in the Premier League. We also have a large squad of approximately 50 swimmers who compete in the Kent County Championships, many of whom then go on to compete in the South East Regional Championships and at the National Age Group and Youth Championships.

At all levels, though, we seek to promote the enjoyment of swimming, of setting achievable goals, personal development and the importance of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The aim throughout is to motivate swimmers, to instil a team spirit, and to encourage a life-long love of the sport.
