Swim21

Sevenoaks Swimming Club has achieved the standards of Swim 21. The national ASA assessment panel awarded Sevenoaks Swimming Club Silver Swim 21 status in the levels of Skill Development in November 2004.

What is Swim 21?

Swim 21 is the ASA's Club Development model - a planning tool, based on the principles of Long Term Athlete Development, enabling clubs to help athletes, teachers, coaches and administrators to achieve their full potential. It focuses particularly on the needs of athletes - striving to provide them with the best possible support and environment.

Swim 21 Accreditation is a 'Quality mark'. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members.

To ensure that affiliated clubs offer quality swimming programmes the ASA has developed a swimmer and club development model called Swim 21 which provides a benchmark against which clubs can measure themselves. Clubs that achieve all of the standards are then accredited with ‘Swim 21’ status.

What do Clubs have to do?

Clubs work steadily towards the attainment of a series of outcomes all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete's development.

How Are Clubs Assessed?

Following implementation of the action plan clubs go through a process of self-assessment against a range of ‘elements’ and are required to score themselves against these criteria. The assessment and evidence are submitted to an ASA assessment panel for their consideration.

What are the standards?

Swim 21 Accreditation is available to ASA clubs of all aquatic disciplines that are positioned at one or more of the four levels of:

  • Teaching
  • Skill Development
  • Competitive Development
  • Performance

Swim 21: Benefits/outcomes

The benefits of becoming a Swim 21 Accredited Club are mainly seen through the process itself. The programme enhances club management, strengthens the structures and unites the club with a philosophy and programmes that ensures the best environment is available for our swimmers.

What Happens Now?

Work is still carrying in the Club through an action plan to continuously develop our swimming programme and Swim 21 provides the framework and benchmark against which we will continue to measure ourselves. Swim 21 accreditation lasts for four years and is subject to an annual reviews.
