Ted Valder Trophy

SUCCCESS FOR SEVENOAKS TEAM

Sevenoaks notched up a successful win at the recent Ted Valder Trophy Gala in Tunbridge Wells.

This young age group team produced some strong swims against some tough competition from RTW Monson SC and Dartford SC.

The strong  teams in the medley relays and freestyle relays held on to 1st and 2nd places all evening in each of the age groups. In particular the 13/u Boys team gave an impressive performance coming first in both their relays.

The whole team produced some very good individual swims throughout with many new personal best times being recorded.  Ellen Benn stormed home to 1st place in the Girls 12 years 100m Butterfly in a new personal best time, knocking off 9 seconds from her previous time.  In the 13 years Fred Biggs beat his previous personal best by 3 seconds  in the 100m breastroke.  Alex Tucker in the 13/u  100m Butterfly cruised into first place 8 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

In the Girls 11 years 50m backstoke, Harriet Reed knocked 5 seconds off her previous personal best time, just missing out on first place.  Elizabeth Stronach in the Girls 11/U 50m Breastroke knocked 3 seconds off her previous personal best.

There were also new personal bests for William Luckham-Down in the 100m Butterfly and Breastroke, Emily Monkhouse in the Girls 12/U 100m breastroke and Suzanna Kitto in the 100m freestyle.

Particular mention must be given to the youngest age group, with most of the boys being new to galas.  They swam well and were well supported by their older team mates.  All the team members rose to the challenge and performed outstandingly well.

The cheering by the team for the swimmers in the final freestyle squadron was tremendously supportive and Sevenoaks just got the touch for first place with RTW Monson less than a second behind.

It was a tremendously exciting evening and the number of personal best times being achieved is a tribute to the swimmers’ hard work.

Final scores were 1st Sevenoaks with 257 points, 2nd RTW Monson with 241 point and 3rd Dartford with 229 points.

Team Captains Fred Biggs and Cecilia Fenner collected the winning trophy.
