THE SEVENOAKS BOYS PROVE THIER METTLE - 22-02-2010THE SEVENOAKS BOYS PROVE THIER METTLE !
The first day of the County Distance events weekend was a massive success for the Sevenoaks boys…….. Saturday 20th Feb 1500m at Tunbridge Wells Pool. Nathan Marsh, 13, knocked 30 seconds off his time, coming 3rd in his age group in 18.58.68 Only the second time he has swum this event he repeated every 50m in 38 seconds and brought the final two 50’s home in 36 and 35 respectively. Fantastic swim. Patrick Ham, 14, knocked 54 seconds off his time, coming 1st in his age group and 3rd in the Junior event in 17.33.87. Again, only the second time he has swum this event, he repeated every 50m in 35 seconds and brought it home in 33 seconds. He was more than 4 lengths ahead of his fellow competitors. Brilliant swim. James Manning, 17, knocked 42 seconds off his time, coming 1st in his age group and 2nd in the Senior event in 17.09.34. Also only the second time he has swum this event, he was repping his 50’s in 34 seconds with 31 seconds to finish. Having held pace with the girls’ winner all the way through he then stormed ahead in the final 200 to bring in another amazing swim. 3 great swims, well done boys……. Back in the water on Sunday for the 800 event proved another roaring success for Nathan Marsh and Patrick Ham with 8 and 15 second pb’s respectively! It is a tough call to swim both events at maximum pace in one weekend, recovery for the Olympic swimmers is usually considered to take at least 3 days. Nathan swam a 9.49.34 to 6th place in his age group and achieved his aim of 50m repetitions of 37 seconds. Patrick swam a 9.05.37 to 2nd place in his age group and 4th place in the Juniors , he repeated his 50’s in 34 secs . Joining the distance boys on Sunday was 12 year old Fred Biggs who swam a fantastic race with a 6 second pb and 6th in his age group. He came in on 10.11.38, had repeated his 50’s on 38 and 39 seconds and sprinted his final 200m in 35’s, really well paced and with only his second attempt at this distance. Alexander Macaulay(13) swam the 800 even though not on top form and came in with a 10.03.24 well paced on 38’s and James Manning swam again on Sunday but despite a promising start found the two events in one weekend was just too much for his arms, he finished in 9.14.07 and 3rd place in his age group.
