Sevenoaks boys all pb at National Youth Champs - 15-08-2010

With the most successful Nationals in the history of Sevenoaks Swimming Club, Top Squad coach Julian Metcalf has a lot to be proud of!  His dedication to this group of elite swimmers has been rewarded with 6 fantastic swims.

All 4 of the National Qualifiers improved their best times by a substantial chunk and put themselves firmly on the rankings within their age groups.

Xander Alari Williams as already reported won Gold in the 200m breaststroke a year young in the 17/18 age group with 2.17.95, Silver in the in 100m breast with 1.04.05

Patrick Foley knocked off a second in his 100m backstroke with a 1.00.79  He was the 17th fastest 17 year old.  In the 200m backstroke he also took off over a second with a 2.11.38, he made it through to the semi finals and his time puts him as the 16th fastest 17 year old boy. He is beginning to show the makings of a very fine athlete.

James Manning lowered his time by half a second in the 50m freestyle and with a 25.16 put himself as the 23rd fastest 17 year old boy in a very large and competitive field.

Patrick Ham was also in top form as he brought his time for the 100m breastroke down to 1.11.65 and this ranks him as the 13th fastest 15 year old in the event. He had only just qualified at the BAGCAT regionals in June and if he keeps up this rate of progress will be hot on the heels of Xander in no time!

Also a mention for Philippa Cochran who swims at Millfield School during term time and Sevenoaks Swimming club during her long holidays!  She was very much a part of the specialised preparations of this National Squad and in her 100m breastroke made it through to the Semi-Finals and then the Final, she took over half a second off in the final to come in 6th place with a 1.13.59 and this made her the 2nd fastest 16 year old in the 16/17 year old event.
