Sevenoaks Swimming Club wins top County Awards - 10-11-2009

Sevenoaks Swimming Club wins top County Awards news

Sevenoaks Swimming Club has this week received Kent County A.S.A.’s top Awards, recognising both individuals and the Club as a whole.

Xander Alari-Williams has been awarded both the Kent County Junior Swimmer of the Year as well as the Senior Swimmer of the Year.

The double awards recognise 16 year old Alari-Williams, who won two medals at the National Championships in the summer and who is currently ranked number one in Great Britain in 100m breaststroke. Alari-Williams becomes only the second swimmer in the County’s history to receive both honours simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Sevenoaks Swimming Club has also been awarded the Kent County A.S.A. President’s Plate in recognition of its leading role in the County.

This prestigious trophy, which is presented to one individual club each season, reflects the overall progress made by swimmers in the Club. Sevenoaks this year had over 60 swimmers competing at county level each year, with many going on to compete at Regional and National level.

The Club also has a strong masters’ squad, junior and senior water polo, and now has a growing open water section and will soon launch a life saving squad.

Jo King, one of the Club’s coaches who has led much of the Club’s development over the past decade, will receive the Plate on the Club’s behalf at the start of December.

Club Chairman Hamish Dickson underlined the feeling of the club as a whole: 'We are absolutely delighted. While Xander's awards reflect a level of individual excellence we can all share pride in it is most encouraging for the Club to be awarded the President's Plate'

"This recognises progress in the Club in its widest sense and reflects the hard work which so many members, parents and officials invest - and for which we are hugely grateful."
