Sevenoaks Swimmers Compete in Leeds Open Meet - 28-12-2008Sevenoaks Swimmers Compete in Leeds Open Meet news article On the last weekend before Christmas, a team of swimmers from Sevenoaks Swimming Club headed north to take part in the Leeds Open Meet on Saturday, 20th and Sunday, 21st December 2008. The competition, organised by the City of Leeds Swimming Club, was a high profile competition, attended by a number of swimmers from the British Swimming Team, including double-Olympic Gold medallist Rebecca Addlington, Silver medallist David Davies and bronze medal winner Jo Jackson. Sevenoaks Swimmers travelled up to Leeds on Friday evening at the end of term, accompanied by coach Julian Metcalf and team managers Kit MacDonald and Louise Norris and ready to take part in a full programme of events in the new long course (50 metre) pool. Despite being the end of term, all swimmers were on good form: Lauren Goodchild swam an impressive range of events, notably in 100 breaststroke and 200 backstroke. AJ battled well in all her events, and claimed an impressive long course PB in the 100 backstroke. Paddy MacLachlan, from a wide range of events, swum a notably strong 100 freestyle. The boys team were on particularly fine form in the 50m events with good times swim by Kit MacDonald, Angus Wyatt and James Manning in the freestyle, Xander Alari-Williams in the breaststroke (in an event where he is now ranked second nationally) and James MacAuliffe in the 50 and 100m butterfly. Other creditable swims came from from Gabby Norris and Alex Macauley in the backstroke and Emily Cast in the backstroke. In the 200 breaststroke, Xander gained a second qualifying time for the British Championships while in the 200 backstroke, Alex Macauley and Paddy Maclachlan also swum impressive times. Congratulations go to the entire team for their focus and commitment.
