National Arena League Round 2 - 12-11-2011
SEVENOAKS SWIMMERS MAGNIFICIENT AT ARENA LEAGUE ROUND 2.
Saturday 12th November and two full coaches of swimmers and parents set off for Canterbury, Premier Division and Beckenham, Division 2.
At Canterbury the first win of the night came from the 11 year old girls freestyle relay, Imogen Hawkins, NinahStrydom, Jade Coatsworth and Holly Thomson-Frost with great cheers and the girls remained undefeated in the medley relay also, with Jade winning her 50m breaststroke individual race by over 3 seconds. 11 year old Sebastian Stewart was not to be outdone by Jade and won his 50m breaststroke in a very exciting tight finish.
The 13 year old girls were a force to be reckoned with and together with 11 year old Ninah they won the medley relay and every individual event! Sarah Kew with both the 100m back and free, Izzy Booth with 100m breast and Becky Monaghan on 100m fly.
The 13 year old boys repeated this pattern and Andrew Jessop won the 100m breast and fly and Michael Jacobs won both the 100m back and free, superb swims from our 13 year olds….
There were many other personal best times and great races from this amazing team, and the final result was; Beckenham 189. Rushmoor Royals 182, Sevenoaks 161, Canterbury 109, Basingstoke 105.
This puts Sevenoaks in 8th position overall and beyond our wildest imaginations we have made it into the top gala of the Premier Division, National Arena Swimming League !! This will be at Crawley on Saturday 10th December, as many supporters as possible please!!
The B team travelled to Beckenham with high expectations following their overwhelming victory in round one last month.
There were many fantastic performances with nearly all individual races resulting in top three positions. In particular, the breaststroke specialists shone. Patrick Ham won the Open breaststroke to complement his victory in the Individual Medley, Georgina Powell stacked her claim to be the second fastest female breaststroke in the club by winning the 13yrs race. Emily Lobley was a convincing first in the 15 year old category and her sister Katie was just pipped to second place in the Open event.
Amongst other great results, there were exceptional winning performances from Charlotte Hook (11 years freestyle and butterfly), Alex Macauley (15 years butterfly and backstroke) and Chloe Rouse (15 years and Open freestyle). However, it was the team relays which provided the ultimate winning foundation. The girls 11, 13 and 15 years teams won all their races whilst the 15 years boys and the Open mens teams were equally dominant.
The final result was Sevenoaks B 262, Erith 213, Hythe 196, Larkfield 131, Cheam 115 and City of Rochester 109.
Team manager Vince Norris was pleased with the squad’s teamwork including great relay results, inspirational leadership from captain James Manning, fantastic encouragement by swimmers for their colleagues and, in particular, strong discipline to ensure zero disqualifications.
