Brighton Open Sprints Gala - 21-09-2009

Brighton Open Sprints, 19th September 2009.

A cold and misty morning found 9 intrepid swimmers heading down the M23 to Brighton for a 9am start! We had a great day and the swimmers were in fine form for the start of the season.

Kiri Marsh was our first swimmer, undaunted by the task of the 100m IM, she knocked 12 seconds off her entry time with a storming 1.38.22 and a big smile on her face.

Closely followed by Fred Biggs in the 50 fly with another pb, he then went on to come 2nd in the 100 IM and 50 back where he negative split and pb’d in both events. Fred in fact is the star of the week in Gold squad as he attended 7.5 hours training, swam in this open gala, went on to swim in the trophy gala in the evening and was also a very active participant in the Team Building session at Halls Green on Sunday! Truly dedicated to SSC………...WELL DONE FRED.

Our group of 14 year old girls were swimming well in the 50 back, with a pb from Tasminder Marsh, and also the 100 IM. Lindsay Sawyer a pb in the 50 breast, 50 free, 50 fly and 100 IM and Gabby Norris winning first place in the 50 free, 4th in the 100 IM, 5th in the 50 back and a 2 second pb in the 50 fly.

The 13 year old boys were medal hunting with Nathan Marsh 4th in the 50 fly, 3rd in 50 back and 5th in 50 free, Tom Hordle 5th in the 50 back and Frankie Batchelor pb’s in 50 back, 50 fly and 100 IM.

Our youngest swimmer, 10 year old Imogen Joyce at her first open gala, broke 40 seconds in the 50 freestyle and seemed to enjoy the experience of it all!

It was a long, hot, humid day poolside, but there was a great atmosphere and with so much success a lovely day was had by all……. Jo King.

At present we are experiencing technical difficulties with the inputting of time,
