PB’S GALORE AT BRACKNELL OPEN! - 05-12-2009PB’S GALORE AT BRACKNELL OPEN!
Saturday 5th December, heavy rain, high winds and grey skies brought a small group of swimmers to the 1st Bracknell Level 3, Open Gala. Wesley Whiting, Sophie Simpson, Alex Chrysostomou, Emily Lobley, Ellen Benn, Laura Phillips, Cecilia Fenner, Katie Lobley and Lyndsey Neale (in order of swimming) For the first 2 hours, everyone brought home a pb with a good smattering of Kent times amongst these too, it was very exciting. Wesley Whiting knocked nearly 20 seconds off his 100 IM to win a bronze medal in this and the 100 free where he broke his own personal barrier of 65, to finish in 64.79. Elllen Benn won gold medals in all her 6 events with good pb’s in most and went home with a smile and loud clinking! Cecilia Fenner swam to Gold in her IM taking 3 seconds off her old time and won silver in the 50 free and fly then a bronze in the 100 back with a lovely swim and new Kent time including 10m of streamlining every length – joy! Emily Lobley with an injured finger brought home gold and silver in the 50 and 100 breastroke respectively and improved her IM and 200 breast times very nicely. Laura Phillips is following in her fathers’ footsteps as a very able backstroker! With a 2 second pb and silver in the 50, she then took 12 seconds off her 200 and won another silver medal. She also lowered her 100 IM by 3 seconds. Alex Chrysostomou swam lovely pb’s in her IM and 50 back to win silver, also bronze in the 50 free. Sophie Simpson brought herself 4 seconds closer to her 200 breast Kent time and won silver in the 50 breast and bronze in the 100 breast. Lyndsey Neale swimming in her first Open Gala swam two excellent 50’s winning silver in both the freestyle and breastroke. Then last but not least, Katie Lobley took 7 seconds off her 200 free to win bronze position, she pb’d in the 100 breastroke to take silver and then swam superbly in the 200 and 50 breast to win Gold in both. She also reduced her 200 IM by a large chunk. It was a very well organised and well run meet and was thoroughly enjoyed by swimmers and coach alike, one for the diary for next year!
