Black Lion Open Meet

Sevenoaks Swimmers On Top Form

Swimmers from Sevenoaks Swimming Club were out in force at the recent Black Lion Open Gala.

Most of the Club’s medals came in Men’s Open category, with possibly the outstanding swim coming from recent joiner Patrick Foley in the Men’s 200m backstroke.  Patrick lead from the start, but at half way was only tenths of a second ahead of the swimmer next to him, but the effort to stay with Patrick proved too much and the challenger slowed dramatically leaving Patrick to win by almost 7 seconds.

Patrick also picked up silver medals in the 50 and 100 backstroke and bronze medals in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley.
Meanwhile Xander Alari-Williams, who has recently been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Junior Championships, was a comfortable winner of the Open 100 and 200 breast stroke.
In the hotly contested Open 50m freestyle James Manning won in a personal best, achieving his national qualifying time for this event for the second time in three weeks.  James also finished second in the Open 100m freestyle.

Patrick, Xander and James will all be representing the Club at this year’s National Championships, the first time the Club has had 3 swimmers qualify for the Nationals in the same year.

In the boys 13/14 age group Patrick Ham had wins in the 50, 100 and 200m breast stroke and 200 freestyle.  Patrick’s 100 breast stroke time being agonisingly close to a national qualifying time.
Other medals went to Hamish Johnston in the 9/10 year 100 and 200m backstroke, 400m freestyle and 200 individual medley, Gabby Norris open 50 and 100 backstroke, and Ellen Williamson in the 11/12 years 50m freestyle.

Other swimmers achieving top 6 places were Polly Martin, Ellen Willumsen, Ellen Benn, Charlotte Hook and Suzanna Kitto.
