Beckenham Open - 08-05-2010
Recently 34 of our swimmers took part in the Beckenham Level 1 Open Meet. This was probably the largest contingent we have ever had at an Open gala, and was particularly impressive because as a Level 1 meet the standard was very high with tough entry times.
Swimmers managed 9 golds, 4 silvers, 5 bronzes and 14 other top 6 finishes. Unusually for Sevenoaks all of the wins were in the senior category (16 and over), winners were: Natasha Hickey – 100 and 200 freestyle Patrick Foley – 100 and 200 back crawl Xander Alari-Williams – 50, 100 and 200 breast stroke Leandre Stevens – 200 fly James Manning – 50 freestyle. James’ swim was also a national qualifying time, which means he will join Patrick and Xander in Sheffield in August. This will be the first time the club has sent three swimmers to the nationals in one year. At least 10 of our Beckenham swimmers then made it back to Sevenoaks for the annual Shoals gala on Saturday night! Even amongst the senior swimmers Shoals is one of the highlights of the gala calendar – your correspondent’s own son choosing to skip supper to get there and race. Congratulations to Penguins on their win.

Sunday, 5th Feb Training: The Sennocke Centre is open so all training is on, although there is no dry land session for Silver There will be no swimming at Combe Bank on Monday 13th Feb due to half term.
